Why Are Nutraceuticals The Second Step?
We know the key role of iodine in your thyroid health and recovery. Beyond that, though, I often recommend nutraceuticals for a handful of important reasons.
The first reason is that the wrong nutraceuticals or combinations of micronutrients can keep you from improving.
You’d be amazed at how many of my Thyroid Second Opinion visits center around helping folks get off the wrong pills.
You need to know what is helpful and what is not – so you aren’t taking things that unintentionally hold you back. Because when you’re taking the right things, it can help enhance your potential to get better sooner.
You also don’t need a lot! What you need are ones that are carefully composed and well-suited to your needs. We’ll talk a bit more about that later today.

What Should You Start Including?
There are a few nutrients that are relevant to everyone with thyroid disease, and multivitamins are a good idea anyway.
That’s why I always recommend starting things off with a thyroid-specific multivitamin.
But, what should a good multivitamin include? Here are some recommendations:
- P5P
- Molybdenum
- B12 (Methylcobalamin)
- Biotin
- Zinc
- Selenium
- Copper
- Vitamin K (specifically K7)
Now that we have covered what we want to include, let’s also quickly touch on the things you will want to AVOID. That list includes:
AVOID:
- Iodine
- B6
- Megadose B vitamins
- Manganese
Key Insight: My solution to these lists of things to include and things to avoid is Thyroid Daily. Taken once a day, it covers all the bases for your general health and thyroid function.
One of the things I want to call out here is a common problem. What happens is that different things can overlap, leading you to get too much of any one ingredient. This is something I really kept in mind when crafting other formulations – but it’s all built around the multivitamin.
What If You Have Positive Thyroid Antibodies?
Whether Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease, by itself it can cause problems even if you have abundant thyroid hormones. It is important to manage that autoimmunity.
There has even been good research about a little extra selenium and specific subspecies of nigella, and inositol which when used correctly can lower thyroid antibodies in meaningful ways.
Best of all, they are also safe. Clinical trials have also found that they:
- Reduce antibodies
- Lower associated symptoms
- Help repair thyroid cells
What If You Are Hypothyroid?
There are also some helpful nutraceuticals that can help here, too. These include:
- MSM (inactivated sulfated T3 and T4) – This helps your body free up a lot of the present but unavailable T4 and T3 in your system.
- Valine – A bonus amount of this can help with body composition, and help retain muscle mass while being able to break down fat more easily.
- Ashwagandha – Certain subspecies have been found to help with a lot of symptoms and also aid in hormone production.
Some other things that make being hypothyroid revolve around needing a little bit more copper, vitamin A, and folate. That should complement the amounts found in Thyroid Daily.
Key Insight: The blend I crafted is called Hypothyroid Support. You can take it once daily and it can make a real difference in advancing your thyroid recovery through nutraceuticals.
What If You Feel Low In T2 or T3 (or High in rT3)?
Does this apply to you? It might if you feel yourself struggling with any of the following symptoms:
- Weight
- Fatigue
- Fatty liver
- Concentration
- Low levels of T3 in the blood
This could mean that you’re lacking in either T2 or T3. This is especially problematic for those who lack a thyroid or are on T4-only medication.
What happens is that your thyroid mostly makes T4, but your liver, kidneys and cells work to convert T4 into T3 and T2 (amongst other things).
Essentially, if you can’t convert well then you won’t feel well. Your body needs to be able to control that well, and certain micronutrients can be a big help, including:
- D-limonene
- Ellagic acid
- Calcium d-glucarate
- Proanthocyanidins
Key Insight: What these things do is that they help your body convert these hormones better. The blend I created here is named T2/T3 Converter, and it is designed for exactly this reason.
Nutraceuticals Can Play A Big Role
When it comes to your thyroid recovery, there is a big role for nutraceuticals to play. That is why I spent so much time designing Thyroid-Specific Formulations so that you could have a roster of nutraceuticals to rely on to ensure you were doing the best possible for your health.
